Anticoagulants (Blood thinners) Before Your Procedure

We will advise you if you need to stop any anticoagulants or blood thinners before your procedure. This will depend on your unique situation.

However, as a general rule, the following medications should be stopped 2 days before any procedure:

Apixaban or Eliquis

Rivaroxaban or Xarelto

Dabigatran or Pradaxa

These medications are often know as NOACs (Novel Oral Anti-Coagulants)

Warfarin is a special situation and we will advise patients individually.

The following medications are fine to continue throughout (including the morning of the procedure)

Aspirin

Clopidogrel or Plavix or Piax

Prasugrel or Effient

Ticagrelor or Brilinta
